Foundations 1 – The Basics of Esports Medicine and Performance
What is Esports Medicine?
Esports medicine is a relatively new field of medicine that focuses on the health and well-being of professional esports athletes. Esports athletes, also known as pro gamers, compete in video game tournaments for prize money, and they often train and compete for long hours in front of a computer screen. Esports medicine involves a multidisciplinary approach that combines aspects of sports medicine, rehabilitation, and psychology to help esports athletes prevent and treat injuries, optimize performance, and maintain their physical and mental health. Esports medicine professionals may include physicians, physical therapists, sports psychologists, nutritionists, and exercise physiologists, among others. They work together to assess and manage the unique health challenges faced by esports athletes, which can include issues such as musculoskeletal injuries, vision problems, sleep disturbances, and mental health concerns. The goal of esports medicine is to help esports athletes achieve peak performance while maintaining their health and well-being, and to provide them with the tools they need to succeed both in and outside of competition.
